Carla Lounsbury developed a lifelong love of quilting that began as a child when she learned to sew from her grandmother’s old treadle machine. Inspired by the quilts that her sister-in-law made in England, Carla made her first quilt in 1992 as a gift to honor her best friend’s first child. Since then, her quilts have become a fixture among her friends and family and she is happy to now share those gifts professionally.
Carla has been a five-year member of the Virginia-based quilt guild "Quilters Unlimited."
For the last few years, Carla has been drawn to t-shirt quilting because of the way it allows her to use her art to tell someone’s story: Each t-shirt represents a special memory and her quilts weave them together into a narrative tapestry. In addition to quilting, Carla also has a parallel interest in genealogy and she sees quilting as another way to explore people's histories.
Originally hailing from North Carolina, Lounsbury has been living in Arlington for 20 years where she works in the aviation industry and raises three beautiful daughters. In her spare time, is an avid reader and world traveler.
