YHS Theater T-Shirt Quilt

I made this quilt for the Yorktown High School Theater Department alumni reunion.  The quilt includes theatre t-shirts from various shows from the last ten years. I mixed in a few Yorktown gym t-shirts to add a little color - Yorktown blue - to the mostly dark theatre shirts.

Fishing Quilt

I made this quilt for a retired construction worker who loves fishing, rock and roll, bars, and motorcycles.  His t-shirts were well loved.  Many of them were well worn and almost threadbare.  Can you find the two shirts with pockets?

Langley High School Quilt

This quilt was made for a teacher at McLean's Langley High School. She was a big Nationals fan, a theater buff and an active blood donor.

Langley's colors are green and gold so green sashing was used for the open spaces.

I've made some quilts in a symnetrical pattern but I think a mosaic pattern like this (where the t-shirt blocks are different shapes and sizes) is more interesting and allows more t-shirts to fit onto one quilt.

While the shirt primarily represents Langley and that affects the color scheme, I think the shirt is interesting because it includes snippets from the subject's life.

Laura's Yorktown Graduation Quilt

My quilting journey began with my family. It was on visits to my grandmother's house that I learned to sew. It was my sister-in-law that inspired me to quilt twenty years ago and it was for my family and close friends that I made my first quilts for.

When my daughter Laura graduated Yorktown High School, I took all her old t-shirts and created a quilt. As one can see, my daughter was highly active at Yorktown with participation in the band as a percussionist and as a manager for the school baseball teams.

Four years of marching, concert, and pep band gave my daughter more t-shirts than she knew what to do with and while she treasures all those memories, this has proven a great way to reduce her closet space with a blanket that she uses every night. Each year, the band has a different musical theme and a unique show title. "Today's Forecast" "Download" and "Bushido" were different show titles during my daughter's tenure.

Pretty much every shirt of hers from hers is used up here.

The border is inspired by a piano's keys to reflect the musical theme. The sashing uses different shades of blue to reflect Yorktown's school colors. The use of space is determined by the t-shirt design.
